Monte Alegre Coffee
Monte Alegre's reputation as a leading producer of specialty coffee in Brazil.

Our Story
Founded in 1917 in South Minas Gerais, Brazil, Monte Alegre Coffee was acquired by the Vieira Family, who transitioned the farm from sugarcane and livestock to a focus on high-quality specialty coffee. In 1990, the family established the Monte Alegre Company, emphasizing sustainable practices and specialty coffee production. The farm celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2017, marking a century of dedication to coffee excellence.
Craftsmanship in Every Roast
Monte Alegre specializes in estate-grown Arabica beans, including varieties like Mundo Novo, Catuaí, Icatú, and Bourbon. The farm employs selective picking and various processing methods—such as natural, washed, and semi-washed—to enhance the beans' flavor profiles. Coffees are dried on raised beds and patios, ensuring quality and consistency.
Sourcing That Supports Excellence
Monte Alegre's commitment to sustainability is evident in its certifications: UTZ, Rainforest Alliance, and BSCA. The estate dedicates over 20% of its land to Legal Reserves and Permanent Preservation Areas, promoting biodiversity and environmental conservation. The farm implements practices like water recycling, responsible energy use, and waste management to minimize its ecological footprint.
History and Tradition
The Vieira Family acquired the Monte Alegre Farm in 1917, initially focusing on sugarcane production. Over time, the family shifted towards coffee cultivation, establishing the Monte Alegre Company in 1990 to manage the farm's operations. The company's dedication to quality and sustainability has solidified Monte Alegre's reputation as a leading producer of specialty coffee in Brazil.
Mission
To continue producing high-quality specialty coffee with a focus on social responsibility, sustainable farming practices, and a deep respect for the environment that has sustained the farm for over a century.
