Our Story
Founded in 2009, SMC Specialty Coffees is the specialty coffee division of Cooxupé, Brazil’s largest coffee cooperative. Based in Guaxupé, located in the Sul de Minas region, SMC was created to elevate the quality and market presence of Brazil’s finest coffees. Cooxupé boasts a network of over 18,000 family-owned farms across more than 300 municipalities, with a focus on family agriculture. SMC operates as an integral part of Cooxupé, leveraging its vast network and resources to offer exceptional coffees that reflect Brazil's coffee-growing heritage.

Leadership and Vision
At the helm of SMC Specialty Coffees is Maria Dirceia Mendes, who serves as the General Manager. Under her leadership, the company has expanded its team of cuppers and office staff, enhancing its capacity to deliver high-quality coffee. The company's growth and focus on quality are in line with Cooxupé's mission of supporting its members and promoting sustainable farming practices.

Commitment to Quality and Sustainability
SMC is dedicated to producing specialty, fine, and certified coffees. In 2021, the company exported 147,915 bags of specialty coffee, with 131,346 bags shipped internationally and 16,569 bags distributed domestically. Their operations are guided by three pillars: social, economic, and environmental sustainability, ensuring a balanced and responsible approach to coffee production. SMC works exclusively with certified producers, many of whom have been long-standing partners since the company’s inception.

The company collaborates closely with its coffee producers, offering fair prices, educational support, and long-term contracts, which contribute to improving the livelihoods of farmers and their communities.
